My love for makeup runs deep. I inherited the fascination from my grandmother. I remember as a child sitting in her vanity applying lipstick and “Maybelline”. She referred to any and all mascara (regardless of the brand) as her “Maybelline.” One my favorite pieces of advice my grandmother tells me is “never leave the house without lipstick and earrings.” If you know me well, you know that I hold true to this statement. Lipstick is my go-to pick me up when I’m feeling down, my crutch when I want to make a statement, and just overall my favorite accessory. Even more so than bling and sparkle.
My adoration for makeup inspired me for today’s Friday’s Five. I am teaming up with Hair and Makeup Artist, Kayla Scott, to discuss Bridal Makeup. Your wedding day is one of the most photographed days of your life. I am a firm believer in hiring a makeup artist for your Big Day. Not only because he/she will make you look FAB, but it gives you a chance to relax and enjoy the day.
I recently teamed up with Kayla for a Styled Photo shoot and instantly fell in love with her work. Kayla has been in the hair and makeup industry for three years, is a MAC professional makeup artist, and just recently opened her own beauty salon (with her business partner Lacy Hehe) in Lexington, TN known as The Beauty Shop. She had me at “I am a professional MAC makeup artist.” MAC is my all time favorite makeup line. I described to her the look I was going for, and she made it come to life in more ways than I could imagine.
I asked her some questions regarding getting you prepared for your bridal look!
What do you think is the biggest mistake brides make regarding their skincare for the wedding?
Biggest mistake a bride can make is to go out of your normal skincare routine. Changing can cause breakouts. Also, it’s important not to get eye, lip, and chin waxes on your wedding day. Get waxes and spray tans done the day before/prior to your wedding day.
What is the most important makeup item for your wedding day?
Most important makeup item to me are the following four essentials:
At least with these four you can still be glamorous on your big day.
What makeup items can make you stand out, but still look like yourself on your wedding day?
Makeup items that make you stand out, but still look like you… falsies (eyelashes), lipstick and when you fill in your brows. They frame your face.
How important is the hair/makeup trial?
Consultations with the hairstylist and your MUA (Makeup Artist) is very important it gives you hairstylist and MUA a change to learn what you like and dislike prior to your wedding day.
Any additional tips for brides?
All my makeup is for photography. That is very important so you have the best pictures. Brides remember no matter how that day goes before you walk down the aisle you will forget all that happened before when you see your soon to be significant others face. So remember to just breathe.
